Well, i don't see this too much and have yet to see any howto's. All I get/got for help was something to the effect, "...you'd be better off getting another NIC card", of course that would require another irq! here's my layout: IP#'s assigned to the 2 different computers are: Computer #1 = 24.aa.aa.aa (ip for local access = 192.168.0.a) Computer #2 = 24.bb.bb.bb (ip for local access = 192.168.0.b) 2 nic's connected via ethernet hub with a source to a cable modem. As such, this works similarly to the netbui or ipx protocals for network w/i a windows to windows enviroment, except in linux i had to set it up mainly (of course). I now have access to and from both computers taking advantage of 10/100 mb/s access. (i'm now ready for NFS!...or samba...etc) I have successfully retained the computers individual outside ip assigned by my cable internet service. What i did: 1) configured my hosts files according to the howto on www.mandrakeusers.org 2) used the drakex>networking> Server Tasks> IP alias for vh. Added the 192.168.0.a/b alias numbers according to each a and b computer. 3) restarted the network (as instructed in #1). 4) Last step is to configure hosts deny to "all" once everything works. I am totally surprised that there is "no howto" for this. I only had "bits and pieces" of howto's. I would have to say, that there are allot of COX @HOME USERS that will have seperate ip numbers for working w/i the win98 enviroment. They would typically have 2 (or more computers within the home connected via an ethernet hub). This h/w layout is becoming more and mroe popular. As such, would someone please take this info and describe it within one of the present howto's? such as teh micro lan on www.mandrakeusers.org? Of course, the only really thing needed to add to that one is the "alias" setup w/i the network config. btw: i really like the seperate button w/i the drakex config for the "Network" area. saves a click. whether or not it's in "proper" layout ...dunno. ------------ Sent from: Lattitude (deg): 32.7130 Longitude (deg): -117.1530 Altitude (ft): 410.0 GMT to Local (hrs): -8.0 (daylight savings enabled) ------------ Created with Linux-Mandrake 7.0! http://www.linux-mandrake.com/ Currently Beta Testing Mandrake Ver >7.0
