Why is it easier for Windows? They don't follow all the rules which were
defined on networking. I mean I learned how to network with TCPIP not
Microsoft TCPIP. They are apples and oranges. Why else would Windows
market their server separate than their user software?

When you buy Microsoft you are deciding you don't want to know everything
about networking. When you use Linux you have many options to configure
the network to your needs. Typical windows users don't know what to do. I
am sorry to say there is no WINIPCFG.EXE in Linux. (LOL)

I would say when in doubt look on the internet for documentation on how
to's many college students in the early 90s wrote document for configuring
things for UNIX/LINUX or go buy an O'Reilly book on network. Linux is just
using the standards. Linux is not secreting on its networking.

it took me about 2 - 3 days from knowing little on local lans to set up my
small local lan using ip aliasing to to different ip's that i obtain thru
cox
@home cable modem service.

I found little howto's on the process but pieced together what i could to
get
the 2 working. probabely really easy for a windows programmmer (gee i
wonder
why).

I would imagine that there will be plenty of
inquiries on the topic, as such, will be writing a small howto on the
process
for the next several days. --

(it took me approx. 5 days to include the nfs routing, etc)
