Dear Roger:

Thank you for trying our Xmanager software.

Your problem is occurred because xdm has a small bug.
Even you specifies local ip address, the remote xdm tries to find
again what address to use in the X window connection.
The bug is that xdm don't spend too much energy to find out
the correct ip address. It just use the first address that is returned
from DNS subsystem.

You can't solve this problem without debugging of xdm program.
We recommend you to use Xmanager program instead of
two Linux computers.

Sincerely,

Ive been having problems with linux to linux with X.
  How did you guys get
the x server to specify to use the local subnetted ip address?

My 2 computers have 2 outside ips assigned by an isp which are connected by
an ethernet hub (this gives me a local lan/subnet when configured in linux
192.168.0.*). But when doing X (or xdm) it always wants to use the outside
ip address, even after:
 X query localhost1 (or 192.168.0.1) :1

it will want to default to the outside ip host address (i.e. 44.50.28.9
isp static ip #)

The local subnet is setup and ftp, telnet, samba, nfs all utilize the local lan/subnet
(which makes good use of the 10/100 nic cards).

Your utility works nicely in win98.  Much easier to configure compared to the other X managers that Ive seen.  A nice utility for all linux/win98 gamers out there!
