Pieter,

        I had a problem similar to this, especially when I set the 
eth0 to use DHCP.  The solution lay in changing the domain I specified 
in netconf: specifically, leaving it blank. One thing you might try is 
doing a 
        dhcpcd -H -D -d 
        to set the hostname and domainame properly.  -d should show
any debug information
(also, you might have to install the dhcpcd rpm)
