ok....since i really don't have any rescue disk, found out the easiest way to
get into my linux system:

1) downloaded zipslack for the slackware.org site using win98
2) unzip it to a drive (ie. d:\
3) edit one file to show the dos drive number of the unzipped location (dos
drive # for d:\)
4) reboot and choose safe mode dos prompt on win98 startmenu.
5) execute the d:\linux\linux.bat file
6) edit the mtab and fstab to mount my main linux partitions (ie. mount
/dev/hda3 /mnt/mdk)

I've noticed one or two other applause on deja concerning this "zipslack". it
can even be installed on an ls120 bootable disk and run from there, but i don't
see why. unless your restricted on diskspace, it now takes me about 5 seconds
to boot into the "rescue enviroment". easiest one that i've tried yet with my
h/w configuration.

(lol) unfortunately, i locked myself out again via a misconfiguration and
linuxconf after editing the mtab enteries with it......man it's touchy!
rewrites everything in the mtab with it's own layout. i think some mods need
to be done to it to make it a little more compatable with mdk70.
