Just guessing, your video is AGP and is probably on irq 11.
I have had problems with a specific ethernet card and and AGP on a desktop.
The offending card was an Intel EEPro 10/100.
Symptom was--activate network--video dies, network dies, computer wrapped
aroundself unresponsive to keyboard, ppp, telnet(no network card working)
requirieng a hard reset.
Changing the network card fixed the problem. The network card swapped out
worked fine in a non-AGP motherboard.
What happens if you have the card in, put X up then activate eth0?
If your X vanishes, you may have a hardware problem like mine.
