you must be talkin about how to do it in an X based file manager..i
don't have a X based file manager, and i don't use one. for file
managing, i use bash. maybe someone else can helpyou out here.

try hacking the /etc/diald.conf file. you can do a wide ranger of stuff.
if you need help, the best place to turn to would be the diald man page.

but diald is a daemon ... you can have a front-end for diald that
controls what it does via the diald fifo (e.g. dctrl that comes with
diald)

3) Is this 0.x a new format for .rpm files ? I use kernel 2.2.15-5mdk,
but I

YES. hackX is for devel + contrib, and 0.Xmdk is not the stable version
+ main distro.

no. it should be 1mdk. it's a official release, by netscape a while ago.
my netscape is fine...i got some ugly errors with the unofficial gpl'ed
version of flash, but other than that, the java is loading and working
fine. but i'm not using the official mandrake one..i made the rpm myself
because i didn't want to wait for the 128bit version to come out.
however, my rpm _is_ based on the orig. 4.70 spec ...still. you should
_not_ have any problems.......
