When doing a remote X session (per clipping below), kde/kfm will crash and display desktop icons on the computer desktop that was used to log in remotely. To resolve, log-out and log back in to kde to clear the desktop of all the icons. Here's a clipping of the command window on "what i do to log in" and the error(s) generated.
