Hey guy,

just a couple of observations from another newbie. (at least as far as linux
goes) there has been a great effort to document the basics and in no small
measure even the more esoterical aspects of the project in motion known as
linux. i word it that way because there isn't always a set in stone answer
for a given proceedure or problem.
the preffered method for questions like you pose below is to first attempt
self education (reading) then if your still at 9's use the news groups you
will get a much more positive response that way. the cooker list is mostly
(usually?) reserved for issues at hand in the developement prosses, and
these guys get a little to touchy when it comes to new guys little posers.i
made a similar mistake when i first tried to get involved and a kindly
individual sent me a similar note. remember my e-mail and send me direct if
you like and i will share some of my favorite spots to find my own answers.
i have a background in cbol and am trying to get up to speed in c or c++ so
i can dabble in the developement too my first couple of postings were
responded to in a less than friendly manner.

but mostly remember always have your enjoyment with your education you'll
remember more!!
