I just did a clean install from a hard drive and I hit a few glitches.

Netscape Communicator doesn't claim to be dependent on Netscape Common
(the help claims it is needed though).

I tried the XFree86 4.0 and somehow libfont.so.1.3 didn't get
installed. This pretty much killed the rest of the X configuration
during the install.

When trying to configure XFree86, I chose the card "Hercules->Dynamite
128->Video" and there was an error about not being able to find the
right rpm file. Sorry, I didn't write this one down. I chose the
generic ET6000 chipset which should be the same.

When I run kppp, I get a message that pppd needs to be installed SUID.
When I fix that, kppp still complains that it can't create the lock
files. kppp needs to be SUID as well. I think I remember having this
problem with a previous version of Mandrake.

I still have yet to have the "ftp the encryption stuff" part of the
install working. I don't have an ethernet card in my pc and use a 56k
modem with ppp. The install lets me enter my isp information, but then
doesn't seem to try at all to connect up. Are there any hints from
anyone who has gotten this to work successfully?

Gnome won't start up either. I am still trying to figure this one out.

There are very few items available user KDE. The menus are mostly empty
and there is nothing in the launchbar. I had to use kfm to find a xterm
to get a shell.

I am not currently on the cooker mailing list, so please cc me on the
response so I don't have to wait for it to appear in the list archive.

Thanks,
-Randy
