Hi all,
I tried Mandrake 7.1b (downloaded the 2 iso images). Here are my
first impressions :
- The installation procedure design was quite improved and is
very nicely done. The capacity to select individual packages
sorted by name is especially welcome : it is now much easier to
scan through the whole list using the keyboard only.
- I encountered my first problem when partitioning : I have 2 disks,
each one partitioned with one big windows partition and then several
small linux ones. DiskDrake tried to mound both win partitions as
/mnt/DOS_win_c (not sure of the spelling). It was easy to correct
by hand but it took me several minutes to figure out where the problem
was when DiskDrake said 'error : device busy'.. I must say I
didn't use automatic partitioning, but rather maintained the former
partition scheme.
- Because I'm french, many packaged are classified as 'dtritus'. It
must be a brute traduction of 'junk' but not very appropriate here.
'optional' would be a better choice IMHO.
- I decided to give a try to grub. It installed quite well, but when
booting I encountered some problem with my keyboard : I could only
use my down and up arrow, nothing else worked. So I had to be carefull
not hitting any key for the default configuration to fire, othervise I
was doomed.
- Also, when I wanted to alter the grub configuration using drakboot, I
could only install lilo (even if grub was listed in the menu).
- Why is the second iso so small ? The remaining 400 Mo could have been
used for many usefull packages.
Please excuse me if I repeated some facts appearing in previous messages,

That's all for today !
