www.linuxgames.com follow the news from 2-3 days ago, contains links to
a FAQ and a script to check if your setup is OK.

I got XFree 4.0 running before the 7.1 beta, by getting various XFree
rpms from the contrib directory of a Cooker mirror, and surprisingly,
the XFree-server-4.0 rpm is in the cooker/Mandrake/RPMS tree.

Backup your existing XF86Config first, and remove the existing
XFree-3.3.6 rpms before installing the new ones.
Here's what I installed :

XFree86-libs-4.0-6mdk
XFree86-xfs-4.0-6mdk
XFree86-doc-4.0-6mdk
XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.0-6mdk
XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.0-6mdk
XFree86-4.0-6mdk
XFree86-devel-4.0-6mdk
XFree86-server-4.0-6mdk

using --nodeps for some of them.
