I did not see your earlier post so forgive me if I am repeating stuff you've
already checked. The first thing that comes to my mind is that many cable
providers insist that your dhcp client (dhcpcd or pump) send your host name as
part of the request. If the host name (usually something like cx663523-c) is not
sent or is incorrect, you will not get a response. I'm not sure which client
Mandrake 7.1 uses but I know that RedHat's pump was broken for quite some time
and did not actually send the given host name. Also, with RedHat, at least, you
had to explicitly modify the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup script to add an
argument to the command line to specify the host name. (-h hostname for dhcpcd,
I think). Since you had it working, I suppose you already know some/most/all of
this, but I figured I'd mention it just in case. Also, (and this is what I do
because I often don't get an answer back from the server even when I have
everything *right*) you can just set it up statically. This only works if you
have a more or less static ip address which is what @home here gives people.
(BTW, I *always* use a static IP for the install.)
