This morning I ran a clean install again. This is a great improvement
over the last one. Below are my comments...

When the usb-interface driver was loaded it didn't load any usb device
modules. I have a usb modem and it the usb-interface driver can't
identify the modem if the acm module isn't loaded.

The MAKEDEV that is loaded can't make the devices files for the usb
modem. It should be /dev/ttyACM0. I get the following message:
------
./MAKEDEV: major_usb/acm/%d=166: No such file or directory
./MAKEDEV: don't know how to make device "ttyACM0"
------

I have a Hercules Dynamite 128 Video (based off the Tseng ET6000). When
I try and use XFree86 4.0, it isn't quiet happy. The errors in the log
file are:
------
Symbol xf1bppScreenInit from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/tseng_drv.o is unresolved!
Symbol xf4bppScreenInit from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/tseng_drv.o is unresolved!
Symbol cfb16ScreenInit from module

Is this normal, a problem with XF 4.0 and my card or a problem with the
build of XF 4.0?

I couldn't do the setup of XFree86 from the install. I received some
error message that made me think it was because of my video card wasn't
happy running in a fb. I have no problem with this, but a newbie might
not understand what the problem is or what to do to get X
configured/started after the install so a better error message would be
nice.

During the install I got ppp installed and had it dial up my ip, but I
still couldn't ftp the encryption packages. I manually modprobed
serial, ppp, bsd_comp and ppp_deflate so I don't know if it would have
done them itself. I will try with the next install attempt. The error
message I got was:
------
An error occurred in Net:FTP: Bad peer address ...propagaged.
------
After a chroot to the install location, I could lookup addresses. I
modified the files in /etc (not chrooted) so that I could do name
resolving from there and still no cigar.

That's it. Most of these things are ignorable so I am pretty happy
right now.
