Linux-Mandrake installation recovery:
Would it be possible to somehow add a feature into the
Linux Mandrake installation procedure that could checkpoint
and save info as you move through the installation, so that if install
hangs at some point (i.e. Crypto, X-Windows) and you cannot
get the system to respond (possibly because you made a really
stupid mistake) you could then reboot/restart the installation
at the last successfully completed step and potentially save
a lot of time going right back to the last successfull step
before meltdown.
For example, maybe after the disk partitioning is completed,
the swap partition could be used to store unique installation info
as you go along, and if you have to reboot, the installation
program could look for such unique info and use that like a kickstart
disk. Then when the system is successfully installed, the swap
partition reverts to a normal swap partition for standard usage
and you go along your merry way.
Just a thought.... Even though installations progressively improve,
hardware detection, and especially X configuration can still ruin
your day.
First time to post... Wish I could help contribute programming skills
but I'm just a regular user.
Cheers.
