Hi.

Some comments of what I noticed when I read it (caveat: I am only a
Linux enthusiast, not an audio one). Remember while reading:
everything are just suggestions and my opinion. I mean no offense. You
are free to ignore it, if you don't like it.

- IMHO, step 1 and 2 are not really steps, but simply prerequisites.
At least step two is simply something to be expected for a
  reasonably set-up work-station (remember, summary - experts). So I
would start with a paragraph saying: "These steps presume that you
have a working installation, including... And look here for more
  info".

- And that is the second point: More links. For example, step 2 could
  link to http://www.urpmi.org.

- Put step 4 into step 3: urpmi kernel-multimedia jackit-realtime

- Besides "Disclaimer" and "Conventions", put a sections "Target
audience" which explains for whom that Howto is intended and for
  whom not.

- In section 3, you may want to mention another advantage of Mandrake
(of course, it's not exclusive to Mandrake): That of this effort
being possible. In other words, the current state is only possible,
because contrib exists and there were people (besides Mandrake
employers, who do a great job) who were willing to put time and
effort to get the missing packages in.

- IMHO, section 4 is out of the scope of the Howto, that is, it is not
what I expected to find. What I expected from it: how to get my
existing hardware to be used with ML. I am sure there are existing
  Which-Hardware-To-Choose-For-Audio-On-Linux-HOWTOs :) Maybe put the
section to the end, if you want to keep it. Or make more obvious
that it is a short instructions and link heavily to deeper
resources. I found it irritating to having to skip that huge
hardware when I tried to get to the software part.

- In section 5, make clear what downloading 3 ISO means, in terms of
cost and time (not everyone has a DSL flat rate). I have no link
handy, but hopefully there is some page somewhere with detailed info
which explains the idea of checking the downloads with md5sum and so
  on.

- In section 6, setting up online software resources, for the
uninitiated, it is not obvious that "Mandrake Contributions section"
refers to what you meant with "online" before. Also, your mentioning
of "95% of apps being there", immediate rose the question of "where
do I get the other 5%", which you don't answer.

Either make clearer, that those 5% are only apps I need, when I got
to experienced user level, or say it in a way, that the question
does not arises, or explain how to proceed for that 5%.

- In section 7, I like that "(If you have to ask, you don't)" part :-)

But a link to some resource about SMP (in a technical dictionary?)
  would be nice, anyhow.

- Use a <UL> in section 9d, to make that list stand out more.

- Is it intention that you don't mention PLF in section 9f?

HTH,

Benjamin, who is not interested at all in an Audio Workstation,
but likes the coolness factor of the project ;)
