Frankly, I also do not care much whether Steve Gibson is right or wrong. But I can see 
that 
something on the line of "pixel-hinting" is possible on CRT's too. In my experience, 
it does not 
make KDE uglier on CRT's. In the end thats a user choice, as long as they _can_ 
enable/disable this option, which is what this bug report is all about.

Using mdk-9.1rc1. In kcontrol->fonts, enable anti-aliasing. Then enable sub-pixel 
hinting. 
Click apply and quit kcontrol. Start kcontrol again. Go to fonts and find that the 
option 
sub-pixel hinting has become unchecked !! I tried several times but kcontrol always 
reverts to 
the option unchecked.
