motv has a longstanding story of bugs.
xawtv works a lot better and is simpler than motv.
xawtv works a lot better and is more user friendly than motv.
so i advice you to switch from motv to either xawtv or zapping

on running motv I get the error :
This is motv-3.85, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.21-0.11mdk)
Warning: Actions not found: Remote
& if I try recording or using various other options in motv it seg faults,
closing the motv window but leaving the tv sound active.
also Xawtv dosnt deinterlace but motv does.
