When bug 1160 existed, I couldn't start X at all, it just locked up on startup. Now, I can start and use X just fine. X just locks up when I try to log out or shutdown using the kde or gnome menu. Shutdown from the command line and killing X work just fine. This bug is however the same as bugs 2741 and 2043. A fix for this using Xdm or gdm is to set the X server to always restart.
