Could you confirm the kernel is really 2.4.21-0.13?
% uname -a
Linux localhost 2.4.21-0.13mdk #1 Fri Mar 7 06:31:12 CET 2003
Before (RC2 and earlier) there was an NTFS diver bug that caused hangs
(e.g. during importing Windows fonts) but in the above kernel version
it must be fixed (several people confirmed that).
And if you indeed have 2.4.21-0.13mdk, can you reproduce the hang?
