[Cooker] RH6.2 no screensaver & poor graphics

Hi I'm running Redhat 6.2 The Problem is something to do with the display I've got a Nvidia Riva TNT 16Meg and I also have Quake 3 arena but the problem is that it runs like sh.t.I can go out for dinner and when I come back it will be ready then the mouse response is so slow that its pointless trying. When I was running mandrake 7.02 it was satisfactory. Also my screen savers don't come on I just get a blank screen   I have searched and obviously don't have a clue where to go but I thought that if I could get xfree86 4.? that it would maybe fix it, would I need something else?   What ever this is, could someone please help thanks Chad
