And of course neither "french" fries nor "french" toast have a thing to
do with France.  In the first case, IIRC, the dish in question
originated in Belgium, and the second, though bearing a superficial
resemblance to un croque-monsieur, is most likely more marketing than
anything else; "french" has a (deserved) history of meaning "fancy" in
the annals of American marketing.

I could really go for some liberty cabbage about now... ;o)
