In a previous version of Mandrake, I set up individual icons for my
floppy drive and cdrom drive and deleted the folder containing these
icons. Apparently that was a mistake.

When I installed 9.1, these icons were broken and I canot find a way to
get a desktop object with an appropriate icon.

I am using a Konqueror icon linking to /mnt/cdrom and one to
/mnt/floppy, treating these as directories instead of devices. It
works but i think it inelegant.

How do I set up cdrom or floppy icons on my kde desktop?

Under previous versions of mandrake, I would select Create New ->
CD/DEV-ROM Device or Create New -> Floppy Device then I would be able
to choose /dev/hdc (/mnt/cdrom) or /dev/fd0(/mnt/floppy) and an icon
with the appropriate device and mount point would be created.

Under 9.1RC2 when I choose either of these options, the device selection
only allows harddrive mount points to be selected and has no selection
for either /dev/fd0 or /dev/hdc or /mnt/floppy or /mnt/cdrom
