When testing my embedded numeric keypad on my laptop (ThinkPad 390X), I noticed
something.
My keyboard's numeric keys always act as if they were arrows; that is a
different bug. However, the arrows make the mouse cursor move around. It turns
out that Mouse Keys (in Keyboard Accessibility capplet) are enabled by default.
The checkbox "Enable keyboard accessibility features" was *un*checked. However,
the checked "Enable Mouse Keys", while grayed out, still took effect. Hmmm, I
thought ... and looked closer.
Leaving the capplet open, I saw that as soon as I turn on the NumLock, the Mouse
Keys option gets checked! This is *despite* the "Enable keyboard accessibility
features" being unchecked.
Either this is a bug in the configuration (the global option does not take
precedence over the grayed-out suboption) or it is a problem with how the Num
Lock key activates an option that I explicitly unchecked, then disabled (by
unchecking the global option).
Because I'm not sure what was modified, I don't know if this is a bug for
Mandrake or if it belongs upstream. Please let me know if you need more info or
if I should post it with the Gnome team.
