I haven't found a list I can read the old messages on, but want to
get out what I have found so far on the beta 3 hydrogen image.

This is installed on a 200mhz Pentium Pro with 128meg of ram, 9
gig barracuda drive, adaptec 2940u2w, LS120

I installed using Expert/developer addition.

I didn't see any option to install the new journalizing file system. My
guess it is on the server setup. While I'm at it (I don't have a multi
processor at home to test) the older versions I noticed don't support
multi processors unless you select server installation, but then it
doesn't load KDE. Is this on purpose or a mistake? Seems you
should have the option to have both.

During install it was taking a very long time to get the cryptographic
info, so I did a Ctrl-Alt F1, F2, F3 then back to the GUI interface.
The screen was trashed from 1/4 from the top to 3/4 to the bottom. So
about 1/2 of the screen in the middle. Horizontal lines ran across the
screen. This made it difficult to see what to select in the crypto list.
The
good thing was when the screen got rewritten with selections, I
was able to read it.

The services to turn on options is GREAT!!!! There is a description
pop up box for each. This is a FANTASTIC option. It really helps us
that don't have a full understanding of each. GOOD JOB GANG!!

Boot disk creation, is a problem. With a system that has only a
LS-120 drive... it gives the option of floppy disk 1 or 2, HDA or skip.
The
LS120 came up as something different than HDA, and when I
selected the second floppy drive it hung. It kept trying to read it,
even though it
didn't exist. I finally had to go into a bash prompt and kill a couple
of processes.

I got to the pci video card and it blew up on me. I am using a
Matrox millennium card with a Viewsonic PS790 monitor. I attempted to
select the right monitor and somehow it took off and I'm not sure if I
even
selected the right one, but when I went to do a test, it warned me
that it wasn't wise to test this card (dangerous to do it said). I had
never
got this warning before, so attempted to test it anyhow. I got did
you see this correctly. I selected yes, and then it crashed. I was
unable
to break out using CTRL-ALT-Backspace, I couldn't type in any of
the bash prompts in the other screens, and I finally had to
CTRL-ALT-DEL.
I rebooted, and it seems to be working fine after the reboot though.
??

I noticed that I got some sort of error and I think it was something
to do with the LS120 disk and being confused about what size it was.
That is minor problem though compared to the other stuff.

The Sound Blaster AWE32 16 bit ISA PNP card I have would
NOT install in the last several versions. This time I didn't get the
errors I reported
last month. It actually configured using sndconfig. However, the
sound was VERY low and not good at all. In kde the sound was so bad
as to be non-usable. I notice that sound device shows as sound blaster
16
and the synth Devices: Yamaha OPL3. Is that right??? If you want me to
check more let me know.

I'm off to bed....

Lorne
