OK, with the update to XFree86-server ( 4.3.6-1) and latest kernel ( dt 3/18) from
cooker and
AGPx1, my radeon mobility M6 LY is fairly stable with DRI. Sometimes the DRI is lost
but no
lockup - I just restart X and its back.

using graphical login hangs after one login and logout. No response to even
ctrl-alt-del.
Disabling DRI in xf86config allows multiple logins without kdm hanging.
Is reproducible regardless of DM used - even xdm hangs.
Also, DRI works OK the first time through KDM and whenever X is started
from console mode using startx.
