           Product: Installation
         Component: Installation
Summary: mandrake-9.1 installer fails/lies to change partitions
                    from ext2 to ext3
           Version: 1.809
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
        AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I tried to change two partitions from ext2 to ext3. I used the mandrake-9.1 (final)
installer to
do the job (note that I am installing directly from ISO image on a hard-drive).

 1. I chose custom partitioning.

 2. I deleted both ext2 partitions and then created new ext3 partitions in their
places (with the
same size as the ext2 partitions).

 3. Next, the installer wrote the new partition table to the MBR and gave this strange
message
that the changes will take effect only after a reboot. After this it actually rebooted
too. And all
this happenned without the installer formatting either partition !!

 4. After the reboot I did a complete installation only to discover later that both
the partitions
have remained ext2 !!

Lots of questions are raised by this strange behavior. Why reboot ? Also, why does it
lie
about the file system change ? The whole behavior makes no sense.
