           Product: Installation
         Component: Installation
           Summary: upgrade failure
           Version: 1.809
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: critical
          Priority: P2
        AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I attempted to upgrade a previous installation of mandrake (8.2) to 9.1 . The
installation
appeared to zip along fine, and the installation program exited with a succesful
installation
message... "please remove installation media and reboot......" so forth and so on.
After the
system rebooted, I noticed that the lilo had not been upgraded (which I specifically
opted for)
and once Linux was chosen, it booted the kernel. Things looked normal until this
point. after
the kernel was loaded, I received about 30-40 messages all starting with the phrase "
unresolved symbol ." all of these items appeared to be critical components of the
core linux
system. I decided to do a fresh install and was successful in placeing a working copy
of
9.1 on my laptop. (a compaq presario 1600xl)
