The real problem is that vga16 graphical installs are grainy. vga16 installs are
most likely to be needed when you're using VMware, but there are other
situations when vga16 is the best you can do, so it's not VMware specific.
Anyway, I can confirm this problem exists in 9.1 final.

handle a lower resolution and a lower BPP setting.
