Summary: KDE freezes when supermount is on and navigating to /mnt
with the Quick Browser from menu
Product: kdebase
Version: 3.1-83mdk
Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kdebase

This bug is reproducible always on a ThinkPad A21e (because its CD-ROM drive has
some problems when trying to read it when there's no CD inserted).
I weren't able to reproduce it on a normal desktop PC.
Somehow supermount isn't able to recover correctly from this situation and KDE
apparently waits forever for the system call to return (I suppose).
There are the following messages in the /var/log/kernel/warnings:
Jun 6 08:56:47 amarczuk_laptop kernel: hdb: packet command error: status=0x51 {
DriveReady SeekComplete Error }

Jun 6 08:58:56 amarczuk_laptop kernel: FAT: unable to read boot sector

Actually, this freezes any KDE application that tries to access /mnt when
there's no CD in the drive. But konqueror of applications the open file
selection dialogs can be terminated with xkill, but when the KDE panel's menu is
used (the Quick Browser) to navigate to /mnt, the whole KDE session is rendered
useless. The window manager stops working and the only option is to press
CTRL-ALT-Backspace to kill X server.
The interesting thing is that only KDE applications exhibit this behaviour -
when I enter /mnt with Midnight Commander run from a terminal, there's no
problem or even any delay. That's why I'm submitting this bug under KDE product.
