The ghostscript site still provides the original URW fonts. The versions in
urw-fonts have been updated, but the file names are the same although the
internal font names for some of the fonts have changed. This can cause
problems with PS files created on other platforms using the old names,
e.g., "NimbusSanL" vs "NimbusSansL".
I have filed bug report 686905 with the ghostscript developers. They have been
attempting to determine the status of the revised URW fonts, and have some
concerns that the method used to update the fonts may have inadvertently
changed some metrics of the original glyphs.
The urw-fonts package needs some documentation to note these differences.
Ideally, the ghostscript developers should be put in touch with the current
maintainer so they can work out the concerns so the updated versions can be
included in the ghostscript distribution.
