Bug in rpm-4.2 (any package that provides a name will be uninstalled by
any package that obsoletes the same name), Fred Lepied is apparently
working on a fix?

Intended AFAIK. Instead you could have your new php link against the
currently installed version, and have a library mismatch mixup ...
