I would like to add geotiff support to gdal, but it requires
libgeotiff>=1.2.0, which no longer has an internal copy of libtiff, and
thus will not build without libtiff-3.6.0.

Beta2 of libtiff was recently released, so would it be possible to look
at upgrading to it in the near future? Apparently it should be
binary-compatible with 3.5.7.

I have packages of libtiff-3.6.0beta1, libgeotiff-1.2.0 and
libgdal-1.1.9 with working geotiff support. I can make SRPMs/SPECS
available (and can update libgeotiff and will update libgdal myself) if
someone will update libtiff to 3.6.0 (unless there are good reasons not to).

(rpmmon lists dchaumette as maintainer)

Regards,
Buchan
