no, it does not.Actually, spamassassin as setup runs as a deamon (spamd), and hooks into Postfix as a filter.
Isn't it just easyer to use amavisd-new? You don't need to start a bunch of programms for every mail and you can use a virus scanner too.
spamassassin runs as a daemon, but you have to write a shell-script to use as a filter and run it for each new mail.
