No. Just look at the two tools that have been suggested as examples, the
Windows Update thing and Red Hat's notification tool. They live in a gap
exactly between Windows Update and something like a cron job. It's my
experience that you can't rely on users to run something like Windows
Update or Mandrake Update, and you can't rely on them to use a tool
that...well...let's stop using euphemisms, something that doesn't live
in their GUI. This is why both MS and RH use something that sits in the
system tray and pushes updates at users.
