officially, communauty pre filter bugs so that developpers only look at confirmed ones. actually, some of us look at unconfirmed bugs because some are "interessants" (that is they do provide enough information). if an unconfirmed bug provide all needed informations in order to fix it, we'll try to fix it rather than an obscure hw bug we cannot do much about even if it's confirmed. i think we've improved quite a lot in fixing bugs (see http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/reports.cgi) :-) of course we can still do better on bug tracking side :-(
