I'm using Mandrake 9.2-Beta1. I didn't observe this behavior with Mandrake 8.2,
9.0, or 9.1, so I believe this is unique to this beta.

During the individual package selection, sometimes checking or unchecking
packages would take a long time. On one package (don't remember which one), it
took about 1-2 minutes before giving me the list of other packages that would
also be installed in order to get the package I wanted. When I selected
openssh-server (which I really think ought to be selected by default...), it
took over 20 minutes before I gave up. Note that the mouse still responded
(although clicking on the "previous" button had no effect) and I could also
switch to the virtual consoles and try to work in them (not that I knew what to
do other than kill the '/usr/bin/perl runinstall ...' or whatever it was called
process). After killing the runinstall process aborted my installation, I
simply reinstalled and decided to not try choosing individual packages.

See also bug 4289 and bug 4301 for other problems that I had with Individual
packages selection--I don't know if they're related, but they might be.
