as for sound - do you use ALSA or OSS? please show modprobe.conf please first remove and reinstall module-init-tools. If you had older version of modul-init-tools installed, please first remove and reinstall them. It will recreate modprobe.conf based on your modules.conf. It may work better for you. -andrey
