Note that these issues (specifically hibernation) are very complex issues, 
affected by
1)Hardware
2)BIOS revision
3)Whether you are using apm or acpi
4)Whether you have a valid hibernation partition/file

My Thinkpad (9.1 with an assortment of kernels, including Thomas's 6.5 and 
Danny's 0.19mdk) suspends successfully to ram (via Fn-F4) and *almost* 
makes it to disk (with pmsuspend) but X crashes on resume, but neither 
works using ACPI (although Thomas's 6.5 makes it furthest to disk - 
whereas the others show me an IBM/Thinkpad 
suspend-to-disk/resume-from-disk screen, and never get back to linux from 
it).

So, it is more or less par for the course at present ... even on hardware 
IBM specifically supported (officially) under linux for quite a while.
