Mandrake Linux 9.2 Beta 2. 

After many attepted installs, I keep having problems that seem network device
related.  

Doing an 'ifconfig -a' or 'ifconfig lo' causes lockup of that shell.  Can't
Ctrl-C it or kill -9 the ifconfig task.  

Bootup shows eth0 being set up correctly, but upon shutdown, it stops on
shutting down eth0.  

X refuses to start up, perhaps network related as well. 

On one install, with many of the workstation packages installed, the bootup
stopped after 'xinitd'.  I don't know what the next task was.
