generally speaking, try and read the Howto's. The Zip drive howto is very
nice.

okay first off GC you do know that 80% of the Zip disks are VFAT not ext2?
as to untaring things (like the badly mangled Zip modules) you would user
Achiver and your filemanager
also you will need to modprobe ppa or imm to get an LPT Zip going
