Disclaimers:
- This was on top of a 9.2beta1 upgrade from 9.0 (which worked,
but which did not actually upgrade any packages)
- I tried to look through the cooker list archives, but that
link
appears to be dead.
During the installation:
- at the end of package upgrading (it seemed) (the indicator
said
it was in the Summary stage), the installer went into a loop
where it gave an Error complaining about being unable to find
printer-utils . Whenever I clicked 'Ok', it briefly said it
was searching installed packages (don't remember exact text)
and then it flicked back to the error about missing
printer-utils.
I wound up aborting/rebooting into a semi-normal session,
grabbed the latest printer-utils RPM from a Cooker mirror (I
had one installed but it was slightly older), and then went
back into the install-from-CDROM; it bogged down at exactly
the same point. :-(
- it would be really handy if there were always a graceful way
to skip over a glitch like that in the installation!
- is there a stage in the upgrade process where I'm asked if
there are any NEW packages I want to install? (or did I
just not get that far?)
After aborting the installation again (but, I think it had done
all it was going to do) I've noticed these things in my new
Gnome desktop session:
- clicking on the icon on the menu bar to start drakconf
prompted
me for the root password but then went off into the weeds and
never appeared onscreen. guess usermode still a little wacky.
I became root first, then started drakconf manually from a
shell.
- drakconf stuff:
* in Boot :: Lilo/grub mode, the text said:
"You are currently using as your boot manager". When
I went to configure, it showed I was using graphical lilo,
but even after I confirmed graphical lilo the missing
text was never filled in.
* drakConAt never displayed and I got this error:
gtkstyle.c line 611 assertion style != NULL failed at
drakconAt line 1215
- Gnome Control Center stuff:
* In Menu & Toolbar Preferences, there's a section for
"Show itmes in menus" which is on by default -- only
in the sample menu below, there are no icons, regardless
of the checkbox setting.
* when I bring up the Control Center, in the Desktop
Preferences tab, there are no icons for File Management,
Network Proxy, or Sound. (but their labels can be
double-clicked to invoke)
- General applications stuff:
* the first time I tried to start mozilla, from the
command line, I got a segfault. I then tried from
the menu, and it worked, and now subsequent invocations
from the command line work, too. weird.
* when I try to start gaim it aborts complaining that it
can't load libperl.so (because of my aborted upgrade?)
Anyway, hopefully this can help the team polish 9.2
even further. I've been a Mandrake user since 7.0, but
this is my first filed set of bug reports.
