This isn't my bug, and it might be slightly different hardware (Thinkpad
600X), but would it be possible to change the default colour depth to
16bit on this card:

John, do you use 16bit or 24bit colour? Do you see artefacts at 24bit (I
do, which is why I think it should use 16bit by default - I haven't
tested a recent beta on the machine yet though ... it currently runs 9.1)
