------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-21-08 14:54 -------
as for hw: intel despite not being compatible with vesa 2 or 3 are now handled
through framebuffer and thus should now be used it 800x600 during installation.
only real old machines and vmware make install running in 640x480
as for widget related bug, the problem is that the main install window is
supposed to be viewable in 640x480[1], so:
- either the translation should be fixed to be shorter (but there're also font
size related problems and the like)
- or some GUIes habe to be altered (which involve quite some work and is
impossible due to string size and end of development/beginning of stabilizing)
some massive work has to be done just after the mdk9.2 release to definitively
get rid of that bug classe.
consider that:
- we size consideration that restrict windows size:
o install must fit in 640x480
o mcc with embedded tools must fit in 800x600
- we have to keep guize sane:
o wizards should not resize themselves depending of the current step (bad
interface)
o the widgets should have enough space to expand enough regarding current
locale (longer translations, different font sizes, ...)
as for drakconnect and other wizard related "hidden buttons" bugs: since wizard
should be kept simple, big steps should not be authorized (no more than 5
options per step?), and thus big steps should be splited.
eg: in drakconnect, the "Configuring network device ethX" should be splited into:
- "generic options":
o dhcp or not,
o hotplug support,
o keep interface id,
o start at boot,
- and ip/dns configuration (which should be merged with zeroconf name step):
o hostname/ip if static config (which should be merged with hostname config step)
o dynamic config:
* hostdname from dhcp (btw checkbox behaviour is inversed :-(),
* zeroconf name
another solution: hide rather than grey disabled options depending of static or
dynamic choice for network config.
as for diskdrake, i've no suggestion
[1] where all other windows are hidden because of the reduced resolution)

description:
I have a Dell 2350, with an intel extreme graphics video card and apon install
the video card displays at 640x480. This works fine most of the way, but
through the harddrive partitioning you cannot access the buttons at all. I had
to tab until i tabbed past the "Done" button and then shift-tab back to
the "Done" button to press it.
also the frame buffering seems unavailable as apon booting the kernel spits
out the "Unidentified graphics mode press enter to see a list...." error when
lilo.conf is set to vga=788.
thanks
