When attempting to run the "modem_run" program for the Alcatel Speedtouch USB
ADSL modem, it doesn't appear to do anything. Exchanging the bundled version
of the program with the latest version from sourceforge.net doesn't help. THe
program simply produces no output, does not attempt to initialise the ADSL
modem, and then dies after about a minute.
