Sorry for late reply, I missed this mail. You're right, there's no gb18030 font available. Redhat has a deal to distribute the commercial Chinese font, but not for Mandrake. Argh, yes, I've been putting everything in contrib and use that happily, so completely forgot the case when contrib is not available. What dicts are preferred for now? But 2 points must be noted -- it must not be commercial dict or with dubious license, and it can't be too big, as there's not enough space for main cooker (some packages have to be dropped from cooker because they can't fit in 3 CDs).
