in rc1, the message is all in english instead of french.
I preferred F2 to ESC (reminds me of a "cancel" key...).
Furthermore, this message flickers behind - temporarily - as the lines move up.

With Mandrake 9.2 beta 2, at boot, the message is :
D�marrage en cours, press F2 for verbose mode
At shutdown, nearly the same :
Arr�t en cours, press F2 for verbose mode
This is really minor...
An enhancement would be to have a not so verbose intermediate mode (maybe like
Gnome or KDE, only showing the main steps). It would be an alternative to the
progress bar all alone on this blue screen.
