Both of these menu entries have "needs=text" in their menu file, which means
they normally start up inside konsole. Do you have kdebase-konsole installed?

I don't know how best this should be solved, maybe the kde menu method needs to
check if konsole is present, and if not, fall back on rxvt?

In kmenu->networking->remote access, there are these menu items: 
        Telnet 
        Tightvnc 
 
None of these items work even though I have these rpms: 
 
        tightvnc-1.2.7-5mdk 
        telnet-client-krb5-1.3-2mdk 
 
>From commandline, vncviewer does pop up its usual box. So the problem is not 
with vncviewer. Similarly, telnet works fine from a terminal.
