This seems to be the same as bug <A
HREF="http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2004";>2004</A>.  I had the
problem with MDK 9.1 and drakconnect would create an erroneous 'pppoe.conf'
file. When useing drakconnect get the following:

The following packages have to be removed for others to be upgraded:
bind-9.2.3-0.rc1.1mdk.i586 (due to conflicts with tmdns-0.1-12mdk.i586)
kid exited -1 at /usr/lib/libDrakX/network/tools.pm line 180.
installing /var/cache/urpmi/rpms/tmdns-0.1-12mdk.i586.rpm
removing bind-9.2.3-0.rc1.1mdk.i586
Installation failed:
bind >= 9.2.0-0.a3.2mdk is needed by (installed) caching-nameserver-9.0-2mdk
bind >= 9.2.0-0.a3.2mdk is needed by (installed) caching-nameserver-9.0-2mdk
kid exited -1 at /usr/lib/libDrakX/network/tools.pm line 180.
Everything already installed

pppoe.conf seems unchanged pap-secrets has a [" * " *] before the username and
password when setup properly by 'adsl-setup' but [" * " *] is after the username
and password when improperly setup by drakconnect.

description:
All versions of 9.1, including RC2, have failed to install my ADSL/LAN
connection to the internet. I tried every possible combination of settings
during installation with zero success. Following installation, I even tried to
use Mandrake Control Center w/ DrakConnect. Again, I tried every possible
setting with no success. [FYI - My LAN card is Realtek RTL8139(A)-based PCI
Fast EthernetAdapter and my DSL modem is made by SpeedStream.] NOTE: All
versions of 9.0 install my ADSL/LAN connection to the internet w/o difficulty.
I was finally able to get my internet connection working on 9.1 by first
installing version 9.0 then upgrading to version 9.1 RC2.
