I downloaded the iso image just after they hit the mirrors, ran md5sum, then installed , leaving my pre-existing /home partition alone

I wound up with a KDE desktop on which desktop objects, panel objects and whole branches of the kde menu would disappear for no apparent reason.

So I decided to find out what a new user would get.

Started with totally clean partitions.
Installed Mandrake, using the default install and choosing all the workstation options and KDE and Gnome and no server options.

Got a primitive deskop with about 3 icons on it, a panel with a few icons scattered across it and an apparently complete kde menu.
But as I tried to add applications such as Opera, mozplugger and java, the desktop became unstable, icons would disappear and whole branches of the kde menu would disappear, including the terminal window applications and the Mandrake Control Center.
Erased 9.2
Reported no bugs as the desktop never got to the state wherein I could actually run applications on it.
I assume that people have been fixing things. I would like to try again but I don't know how to get the fixes or, even better, how to get fixed iso images.
I had a look at the Cooker RPM directory in the mirrors holding the iso images, but there are no parts of kde that are dated after the issue of RC1 so they can't be the upgrade sources.

Hi
You need to update your system to the latest cooker, regularly. See this guide on the Wiki :
